County Executive David Crowley Thanks President Biden for Lowering Energy Costs for Milwaukee County Families

MILWAUKEE, WI – Today, President Biden and the U.S. Department of Energy announced that Wisconsin will be able to access more than $95 million in new funding delivered by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to help families lower energy costs through the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). This expanded funding will allow Wisconsin to retrofit low-income homes in Milwaukee County to make them healthier and more energy efficient while lowering utility bills.

Through the Weather Assistance Program, low-income households save nearly $400 a year on average thanks to upgrades that improve the energy efficiency of their homes, saving families money, spurring economic growth, and tackling climate change.

“I applaud President Biden for continuing to lower costs for working families here in Milwaukee and across the country,” said County Executive David Crowley. “These investments will help Milwaukee households make their homes more energy efficient and resilient to extreme weather, lowering utility bills and giving families more breathing room on their everyday expenses. President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is once again investing in communities traditionally underserved and left behind, helping to give Milwaukee County residents every opportunity to be healthy, to thrive in their neighborhoods, and get ahead. These investments through the Weatherization Assistance Program build on this progress and bring down energy costs for families across Milwaukee County, and especially for low-income households who spend nearly five times the average American household on their utility bills. These investments to help families improve their homes’ insulation, heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems, lighting, appliances, and more will give families more breathing room in their budgets, while creating 850,000 good-paying jobs across the country, and tackling climate change.
