Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs and other members of the Milwaukee Common Council have introduced a resolution directing the Department of Administration – Budget and Management Division to report to the Common Council regarding each department’s proposed and future cuts and furloughs, outlining the equitable impact on services to all neighborhoods, districts, and communities and the equitable impact on City employees. The resolution is co-sponsored by Alderwoman Chantia Lewis, Alderman Khalif J. Rainey, Alderwoman Nikiya Dodd, Alderman Russell W. Stamper, II and Alderman Ashanti Hamilton.

“As we continue down the difficult and unfortunate path of furloughing city employees and impacting city services, it is important to make sure that equity is at the forefront and we do not reduce offerings and impact quality of life at a disproportionate rate in certain areas,” said Alderwoman Coggs.

“We want to make sure the impact of these furloughs and other cost saving measures are abundantly clear so that we can all be transparent with our constituents on what services will see changes moving forward,” Alderwoman Coggs continued.

The resolution will be heard during the Council’s upcoming committee cycle and would be before the full Common Council at its next regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, May 27.
