Council adopts ordinance to bolster requirements for private security personnel
As part of today’s Common Council meeting on Tuesday, March 19, the Council adopted file #230678 – an ordinance relating to the establishment of license and bond requirements for private security personnel. The file, introduced by Alderwoman Andrea M. Pratt, establishes a requirement for security personnel to obtain a license, and to execute a bond agreement prior to attaining such license. The file can be viewed here.
Alderwoman Pratt notes that this legislation was crafted in an attempt to prevent further instances from occurring like the one that took the life of
Isaiah Allen in August 2023. “Isaiah Allen tragically lost his life at the hands of a person who was acting as a security guard but was not properly permitted to do so. Out of this tragedy the legislation was born, requiring those acting as security to be licensed, bonded, and insured, as well as undergo a thorough background check. It is my hope this legislation provides confidence to the public and business owners that those hired as security are properly vetted to do so and ultimately make our community safer,” she said.
