Congresswoman Gwen Moore Statement on the Revocation of Student Visas at UW-Milwaukee
“I am deeply alarmed by the revocation of student visas for several international students at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and nationwide. Students and faculty have been left in the dark, with no clear explanation from the Trump Administration regarding the reasons behind these sudden and disruptive actions. It sends a chilling message that the United States is no longer a welcoming place for the pursuit of knowledge.
These isolationist actions by the Trump Administration endanger the integrity of our academic institutions and threatens America’s position as a global leader. If we are to remain competitive in a rapidly changing world, we must acknowledge the vital roles international students and scholars have played in advancing our scientific research, medical innovation, and technological leadership that helps drive our economy and communities.
I demand answers, I demand accountability, and above all, I demand that the United States recommit itself to being a place where knowledge is pursued freely and fearlessly. That is why I will keep working with my colleagues to raise alarm about these actions with this Administration, seek answers, and push back on visa revocations that have occurred without any transparency, and on vague, often unsubstantiated grounds.”
