City receives $15 million to help raze dangerous blighted property

Statement of Alderwoman Larresa Taylor December 12, 2023

By - Dec 12th, 2023 02:15 pm

We have received $15 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds from the Governor to raze the former Northridge Mall, but this $15 million is truly doing so much more: It is relieving pressure on a community, relieving pressure on our first responders, especially our firefighters who respond to fires which put us all at risk, our police officers who respond to those who should not be in there in the first place, and nurses and doctors who provide treatment to those firefighters and police officers (as well as to civilians who may be hurt as a result of being inside when they should not be).

Again, it is through the collaborative efforts of the Governor’s office, the Mayor’s office, the Council and other city departments that this day has come to provide relief to the residents’ concerns, questions and worries, and to help rid us of the blight that has plagued this community and this city for far too long.
