MILWAUKEE, WI – December 5, 2019 – Cesar Cornier serves as a social justice coordinator at First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee. His responsibilities include coordinating social justice work at the church, supporting the Social Justice Council, social justice teams, and Anti-Racism Team. He is also in the Public Allies program, a social justice organization committed to changing the face and practice of leadership by recruiting and training talented young leaders, with a passion for social impact, to create meaningful change in our community.

Cesar is passionate about helping people in the community who are being discriminated against and marginalized. He wants to use his experience in social justice and outreach to help create a more equal and empowered community.

“My mother has been a big influence on how I became involved in social advocacy,” said Cesar. “At a young age, I helped distribute food to low-income families through Centro Hispano. Doing this inspired me to create my own clothing drive, which I organized this past winter. Recently, I was a part of a docuseries in partnership with the National Institute for Civil Discourse, a bipartisan project geared at civic engagement and finding common ground, on how we can use dialogue to help bridge divides in the country.

As a musician and actor, I use my platform to speak on behalf of those who feel they are being silenced. I genuinely believe things need to change, which is possible when we unite to help each other. Being a Latino from the south side of Milwaukee, I’ve seen first-hand the damage done by institutionalized racism and want to do my part in educating others.”

Cesar began writing songs at age 12, and at age 14 was creating his own instrumentals to rap on. He is the founder of Keepitmil, a movement geared to promote positive living as well as showcasing his and his artists’ music. Recently, he has been able to showcase his talents on the screen, as a music producer for the Fox television show “Empire.” www.keepnitmil.com

Cesar is also the development coordinator for the Wisconsin Hip Hop Chess Club, a community organization on the south side of Milwaukee that teaches kids chess through the lens of Hip Hop. Kids and their families meet every Tuesday for a free dinner and the opportunity to develop their chess playing skills while learning about music production and lyricism. facebook.com/hiphopchessclubofmilwaukee
