LEXINGTON, Ky. – Vincent Cervantes earned the second individual medal of his young career on Tuesday afternoon, finishing tied for first at the Bluegrass Collegiate Invitational with an even par 213 at the University Club of Kentucky. The sophomore became the seventh Golden Eagle to win multiple tournaments in their collegiate career.

As a team, Marquette finished second at 10-over par, four shots back of tournament host Kentucky. The Golden Eagles were 27 strokes clear of third-place Northern Kentucky. It was MU’s second straight top two finish heading into the BIG EAST Championships next month.

Consistent throughout the two days, Cervantes carded three rounds of 71, producing three birdies in each round. Heading into his final two holes Cervantes trailed Kentucky’s Cole Stockard by two strokes. The Golden Eagle birdied No. 1, his 17th hole of the third round. With the pressure on the UK freshman, he faltered with a bogey on No. 18 to bring the two level at even par for the week.

MU had two others land in the top 10 with Mason Schmidtke tying for fifth at 3-over par and Mischa Candinas tying for seventh at 4-over. Schmidtke opened the tournament with a team-low round of 2-under 69 while Candinas closed his tournament with a 69. It was Schmidtke’s third top 10 result this season. For Candinas, it was the first of his career.
