Brewers Name Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Month for May

Fischer Named Player of the Month; Owens Selected as Pitcher of the Month

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have named infielder Andrew Fischer as their Minor League Player of the Month and right-handed pitcher Braylon Owens as Minor League Pitcher of the Month for May.

Additionally, outfielder Alexander Frías was named the organization’s Complex League Player of the Month and right-handed pitcher Ismael Yánez earned Complex League Pitcher of the Month.

Fischer, 22, batted .281/.439/.674 (25-for-89) with 3 doubles, a triple, 10 HR, 20 RBI, 25 runs scored and 21 walks in 24 games for Class-A Wisconsin in May.

Ranked as Milwaukee’s No. 6 prospect by MLB Pipeline, Fischer led the Midwest League in HR (10) and total bases (60) during May. He also ranked among league leaders in OPS (3rd, 1.113), slugging percentage (3rd, .674), runs (T3rd, 25), extra-base hits (T5th, 14) and on-base percentage (9th, .439).

Owens, 23, made 5 appearances (3 starts) for Class-A Wisconsin in May, recording 35 strikeouts with just 9 walks over 25.0 innings. He tied for second in the Midwest League in strikeouts, while his 34.7 strikeout rate led all Brewers Minor League pitchers. Owens recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts over 6.0 innings (2h, 1r, 1er, 3bb) on May 1 vs. Quad Cities.

Selected by Milwaukee in the 10th round of the 2025 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Texas at San Antonio, Owens also ranked among Midwest League leaders for May in WHIP (2nd, 1.16), opponent batting average (4th, .220) and innings pitched (T8th, 25.0).

Frías, 18, batted .403/.464/.661 (25-for-62) with 7 doubles, 3 HR, 13 RBI, 18 runs scored and 7 stolen bases in 17 games for the Rookie ACL Brewers in May.

Signed by the Brewers as a non-drafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic in January 2025, Frías ranked among Arizona Complex League leaders for the month in doubles (T3rd, 7), hits (T5th, 25), total bases (T6th, 41), runs (T6th, 18) and extra-base hits (T7th, 10).

Yánez, 20, posted a 2.25 ERA (8ip, 2er) and 1 save over 7 relief appearances for the Rookie ACL Brewers in May. He recorded 13 strikeouts with just 5 walks and held opponents to a .222 batting average (6-for-27).

Signed by Milwaukee as a non-drafted free agent out of Venezuela in January 2023, Yánez was promoted to Class-A Wilson on June 2.
