Brewers Launch Hometown Champions Award Honoring Wisconsin’s First Responders; Fallen MPD Officer to be First Recipient

New Program Recognizes First Responders for Their Selfless Service; Brewers to Honor Fallen Milwaukee Police Officer Peter Jerving Posthumously as its Inaugural Recipient

By - Feb 27th, 2023 09:56 am

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers today launched the Brewers Hometown Champions Award, a new award program honoring Wisconsin’s first responders. The Brewers recognize the courage, commitment, and sacrifices of the men and women in fire rescue service, law enforcement, emergency medical services, and first responder roles across Wisconsin. These selfless heroes protect and serve communities every day and risk their lives to do so.

The first recipient of Brewers Hometown Champions Award will be fallen Milwaukee Police Officer, Peter Jerving, who made the ultimate sacrifice for his community on Feb. 6, 2023, when he was fatally shot in the line of duty. Officer Jerving was a Milwaukee native who sought to be a law enforcement officer since the young age of 13. He realized that dream by serving on the Milwaukee Police Department for four years. Officer Jerving will be honored on April 25 in a pregame ceremony and his family will be onsite to throw a first pitch.

“Officer Jerving’s sacrifice was tragic, and there is no person more deserving to be recognized as we launch this honor,” said Brewers President – Business Operations Rick Schlesinger. “We are grateful for the opportunity to bring Officer Jerving’s family to American Family Field to ensure that his selfless service to our community is remembered appropriately.”

A new Hometown Champion will be selected each month, May through September 2023, through fan nominations. Fans can nominate a Hometown Champion for their commitment to public service by visiting brewers.com/Hometown.

Hometown Champions honorees will be recognized in a pre-game ceremony at American Family Field, receive four game tickets to a pre-selected home game, an honorary award medal, and will throw out a ceremonial first pitch before the game.
