Brewers Acquire Right-handed Pitcher Joel Kuhnel From Athletics
Send Cash to the A's
MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired right-handed pitcher Joel Kuhnel (KOO-nuhl) from the Athletics in exchange for cash. To make room on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Quinn Priester was transferred to the 60-day injured list. The announcement was made by President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Matt Arnold.
Kuhnel will wear No. 59 when he reports to the club.
An updated 40-man roster (40) can be found here.
Kuhnel, 31, went 1-2 with a 4.21 ERA and 4 saves in 25 relief appearances with the Athletics this season (25.2ip, 27h, 12r, 12er, 6bb, 14k, 2hr). He surrendered 4 runs in two-thirds of an inning in his last outing on Thursday at Wrigley Field. Without that appearance, his season ERA drops to 2.88.
Kuhnel has also pitched in the Major Leagues with Cincinnati (2019-20, 2022-23), Houston (2023-24) and Tampa Bay (2024). He was briefly a member of the Brewers organization from June-July of 2024 but did not appear in a game during two stints with the team that season.
