Brewers Acquire Pitchers Lance McCullers Jr. and Colton Gordon from Astros
Send Outfielder Jadyn Fielder to Houston
MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired right-handed pitcher Lance McCullers Jr., left-handed pitcher Colton Gordon and cash from the Houston Astros for outfielder Jadyn Fielder. To make room on the 40-man roster, left-handed pitcher Rob Zastryzny was transferred to the 60-day injured list. The announcement was made by President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Matt Arnold.

McCullers, 32, has spent his entire Major League career (2015-26) with the Astros, going 53-40 with a 3.85 ERA in 154 games (148 starts). The 2017 All-Star and two-time World Series champion (2017 and 2022) has produced 904 strikeouts in 813.1 innings pitched while holding opponents to a .231 batting average. He underwent “Tommy John” surgery on his right elbow in November 2018 and missed the entire 2019 season. He underwent right flexor tendon surgery in June 2023 and missed all of that season and 2024.
McCullers went 2-3 with a 6.86 ERA in 8 starts with Houston this season before landing on the 15-day injured list on May 19 with right shoulder inflammation. He was on rehab assignment at Triple-A Sugar Land prior to being traded to Milwaukee.
McCullers is the son of former Major League reliever Lance McCullers, who pitched for San Diego (1985-88), New York-AL (1989-90), Detroit (1990) and Texas (1992).
Gordon, 27, was selected by Houston in the eighth round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft and made his Major League debut last season as he went 6-4 with a 5.34 ERA and 1 save in 20 games (14 starts) for the Astros. He appeared in 4 games (1 start) during two stints with the team this season.
Fielder, who turns 22 on August 17, signed with Milwaukee as a non-drafted free agent in July 2024. He played his first professional season with the Rookie ACL Brewers (2025) and was at Class-A Wilson prior to this trade. Fielder is the son of former Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder.
