Brewers Acquire Infielder Mike Brosseau from Rays
Send Right-Handed Pitcher Evan Reifert to Tampa Bay
MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired infielder Mike Brosseau (BRAH-so) from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for right-handed pitcher Evan Reifert. The announcement was made by President of Baseball Operations David Stearns.
Brosseau hit .187 with 5 HR and 18 RBI in 57 games with the Rays in 2021 and .218 with 8 HR and 21 RBI in 51 games with Triple-A Durham. He has made starts at four positions in his Major League career, including second base (50), third base (35), first base (9) and left field (1).
Signed by Tampa Bay as a non-drafted free agent in 2016, Brosseau made his Major League debut with the Rays in 2019, batting .273 with 6 HR and 16 RBI in 50 games. He hit .302 with 5 HR and 12 RBI in 36 games in the regular season in 2020 and .250 with 1 HR and 2 RBI in 14 postseason games that season.
Reifert, 22, was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Brewers in 2020. He made his professional debut in 2021, going 3-3 with a 2.10 ERA and 8 saves in 37 relief appearances between Low-A Carolina and High-A Wisconsin.
