MILWAUKEE – Yesterday the County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution authored by 1st Vice-Chair Sequanna Taylor and Supervisor Ryan Clancy declaring November National Runaway Prevention Month in Milwaukee County.

“Our youth are always close to my heart, and it is my goal to keep each and every one of them safe in our community,” said 1st Vice-Chair Taylor. “When kids run away or are kicked out of their home, they are at much higher risk of going hungry or becoming a victim of human trafficking. We must do all we can to stop this. If you are a young person in need of support, please know that there are resources available to help, including calling the National Runaway Safeline at 1-800-RUNAWAY.”

National Runaway Prevention Month began in 2002. It is presented by National Runaway Safeline, the federally designated national crisis and communication system for youth ages 12 to 21 who run away, are considering leaving home, or are experiencing homelessness.

Runaway youth are often kicked out of their homes, have experienced trauma, struggle to meet basic needs, and are at increased danger of falling into high-risk situations.
