Bewers Prospect Jackson Chourio Named Carolina League Most Valuable Player
Chourio Also Named Top MLB Prospect in Carolina League
MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee Brewers prospect outfielder Jackson Chourio today was named Carolina League Most Valuable Player by Minor League Baseball. The award was voted on by league managers.
Chourio joins fellow Brewers prospect catcher Mario Feliciano (2019) as the only players in Mudcats history to win MVP honors in the Carolina League. The Mudcats had four players win MVP while in the Double-A Southern League, including first baseman Mark Johnson (1994), catcher Jason Kendall (1995), infielder Gaby Sánchez (2008) and outfielder Dave Sappelt (2010).
In 62 games with Low-A Carolina in 2022, Chourio batted .324 with 23 doubles, 5 triples, 12 HR, 47 RBI and 10 SB. He was promoted to High-A Wisconsin on July 25.
Chourio finished 2022 batting .288 with 30 doubles, 5 triples, 20 HR, 75 RBI, 75 runs and 16 SB in 99 games between Carolina, Wisconsin (31g) and Double-A Biloxi (6g). He was among the organizational leaders in slugging percentage (2nd, .538), OPS (3rd, .880), extra-base hits (3rd, 55), doubles (3rd, 30), triples (T3rd, 5), RBI (4th, 75), batting average (5th, .288), home runs (5th, 20), total bases (5th, 215), runs (5th, 75) and hits (6th, 115).
