MILWAUKEE, WI (November 12, 2019)Bel Canto Chorus brings its vocal power and beauty to the holiday season with its annual Christmas in the Basilica concert. The well-loved holiday concert returns with traditional carols, the always-anticipated sing-alongs, and a performance of John Rutter’s beloved “Gloria.” Four performances of the concert will take place December 13–15 in the beautiful Basilica of St. Josaphat.

Christmas in the Basilica has grown in popularity, which led to a fourth performance being added this year. “Celebrating the warmth and joy of the Christmas season has been at the heart of these concerts for more than a decade,” says music director Richard Hynson, adding “It’s our way of wishing our audiences a very merry Christmas – from our family to yours!” This year also commemorates Michelle Hynson’s 30th anniversary with Bel Canto Chorus. Hynson has performed with the Chorus since 1989 as assistant conductor, accompanist, and soprano section leader. To honor her three decades of service, this year’s program includes eight Christmas carol arrangements, lovingly written for the chorus by Ms. Hynson over the years.

Audiences can look forward to singing along with such favorites as O Come, All Ye Faithful, The First Nowell, and Joy to the World, accompanied by organist Mark Davidson. The concert also features John Rutter’s “Gloria,” a festive and familiar work that makes a fitting prelude to the holiday season.
