MILWAUKEE – In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andy Gronik released the following statement:

“Today, Americans all over the country honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for bringing us together at a time of extreme hate and division. Dr. King taught us compassion, courage, dignity, humility, justice, and ultimately, how to love one another unconditionally – all through his example of service. He selflessly served humanity and dedicated his life to fulfilling a vision of America that finally rose up and lived out the guiding principle outlined in our nation’s founding documents: that all we are created equal.

“More than fifty years after Dr. King participated in the Montgomery Bus Boycott, our country finds itself once again engulfed in an atmosphere of bitter divisions and hatred thanks to leaders who put their self-interests above our shared values. Thankfully, people all over the nation are still working in the spirit of Dr. King’s legacy — putting their lives on the line – to fight for equality and freedom.

“This holiday, not only do I honor Dr. King’s life as a champion for racial justice and equality, but I also honor and celebrate those across the nation who carry on Dr. King’s work into the 21st Century. By committing to serving one another with the same unconditional love as Dr. King, we will fulfill his dream.”
