Ampersand Theater Opens Downtown
Unique venue to offer improv shows, lessons, workshops, and more
MILWAUKEE, WI (January 8, 2020) – The Ampersand Theater, Milwaukee’s permanent home for longform improv comedy, is having its grand opening weekend Friday, January 17 and Saturday, January 18, 2020.
Opening night highlights a variety of Ampersand’s improv offerings, including the rapidfire style of Hasenpfeffer and the whimsical silliness of Professor Merryweather’s Time-Traveling Improv Show. The night is headlined by one of Ampersand’s longestrunning forms, The Journal, which uses audience inspiration to narrate a truly unique comedic tale, all framed around entries in made-up journal.
Saturday brings back fan favorite I Should Know This, a one-of-a-kind comedy quiz show where the funniest answer wins. To mark the occasion, host Kristoffer Puddicombe welcomes State Representative Jonathan Brostoff as special guest panelist, with live music by the Madison-area Backalley Flipflops.
The Ampersand Theater is located in the lower level of Calvary Presbyterian Church in the former site of In Tandem Theatre at 628 N. 10th Street, Milwaukee. The Theater is fully ADA-accessible, and offers guests a unique “Can-tina” bar, which offers beer, wine, soda, and a variety of specialty and mixed drinks–all in cans.
“We’ve been working very hard the past few months, and are thrilled to finally be able to share this beautiful space with our guests,” says James Boland, Artistic Director. “We look forward to continuing to showcase world-class longform improv, as well as sketch comedy, alternative comedy, fringe theater, and a whole lot more in 2020.”
