Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs will join members of the NAACP Milwaukee Branch and other neighbors at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday, June 8) at the MLK Supermarket/Dollar Tree site (2303 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Dr.) to rally in opposition to the location opening as a Dollar Tree store.
The NAACP Milwaukee Branch has announced its opposition to the Dollar Tree location in Bronzeville, as the building’s owner had promised a full-service grocery store for the site. The branch, Alderwoman Coggs, and neighbors have said a full-service grocery store offering wholesome and nutritious foods would best serve the neighborhood.
Alderwoman Coggs said tomorrow’s news event will culminate with the launch of a petition drive against the Dollar Tree at the 2303 N. MLK Dr. location. “Neighbors and stakeholders have indicated a desire to proactively show their opposition, and the petition drive is a productive way of doing that in the community,” Alderwoman Coggs said.
The Dollar Tree’s food seller’s license for the 2303 N. MLK Dr. location will be heard at the Common Council’s Licenses Committee meeting on Thursday, June 13 at City Hall.
