The Grilled Cheese Grant (GCG) is an annual fundraising event/micro-grant hosted by local artist collective, After School Special. The grant is designed to provide financial support for undergraduate seniors at The Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) and The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) who are working towards completing their senior thesis projects in the areas of Fine Arts and/or Design.
With donated cheese, bread, beer, and supplies from local businesses, grilled cheese sandwiches are served for $5. In addition to grilled cheese, attendees will also receive a ballot to vote for one of five finalists.
The amount of money awarded for the grant is based on how much money is raised: 60% of the total
funds is awarded to the artist with the most votes, 25% goes to After School Special/Walker’s Point
Center for the Arts and 15% is donated to a local non-profit.
The grantee and runner-up are announced after all votes are collected and tallied on the day of the event.
The runner-up receives a solo exhibition at a local gallery space in Milwaukee in the Fall of 2019
organized by After School Special.
