Admirals Win Season Opener in Rockford
Netminder Isak Posch Makes 23 Saves in Victory
Milwaukee, WI—Making his first start as an Admiral, Isak Posch stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced, including 11 in the third period, to guide the team to a 3-1 win over the Rockford IceHogs on Saturday night in the season opener for the 2026-27 season.
Daniel Nieminen posted a goal, his first pro marker in North America, and added an assist, while Cole O’Hara (2a) also had a two-point night to guide the Ads offense.
After a scoreless first period, Nieminen opened the scoring just 1:02 into the second. Fellow Finn Joakim Kemell found a crashing Nieminen, and he buried the shot over the right shoulder of Rockford netminder Drew Commesso.
Later in the second period Edstrom pushed the Ads lead to 2-0 with another goal in transition. The play started when Cole O’Hara’s attempted a pass to Nieminen in the slot. But the puck was in his skates, and he eventually chipped it back to Edstrom, who had a wide-open net as Commesso was pulled out of position on the initial pass.
The IceHogs would cut the lead in half late in the third when Dominic Toninato scored with less than five minutes to play in the game and make the score 2-1.
Rockford pulled Commesso with two minutes to go in favor of an extra attacker, but Brady Martin put the game on ice as his clearing attempt had just enough juice to make it into the empty net and secure the win for Milwaukee.
The Admirals are now off for the next week before they have their home opener next Saturday, October 10th at 6 pm against the Grand Rapids Griffins at Panther Arena.
