A warm welcome to the Alpha Kappa Alpha 89th Central Regional Conference

With their 89th Central Regional Conference now underway, I want to extend a warm welcome to the dynamic women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated as they convene here in Milwaukee with more than 90 chapters making the journey from across seven states.

As a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha myself, I know firsthand the ways in which this community of women touches lives. Through innovation, advocacy, and sisterhood, these women dedicate themselves to improving the world around them.

In the spirit of this year’s conference theme, “A Confident and Captivating Region Soaring Through the Journey of a Lifetime in a Great Place on a Great Lake,” Alpha Kappa Alpha will honor Milwaukee area leaders who embody the organization’s international initiatives: “Empowering Our Families, Building Our Economic Wealth, Enhancing Our Environment, Advocating for Social Justice, and Uplifting Our Community.”

Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority has a long history of making meaningful change since they were founded in 1908 on the campus of Howard University and I am more than thrilled as a proud AKA member and as an Alderwoman and resident of Milwaukee that our city can be a small part of that history today – and to come.
