This biennial exhibition highlights the extraordinary talent in Wisconsin art featuring paintings, drawings, sculpture, prints and photography by the state’s best known contemporary artists. It is the Gallery’s largest and most diverse exhibition of the year. Featuring a Gallery Talk with the Artist at 7:00 p.m. The Grohmann Museum is well known for its outstanding collection of industrial landscape paintings, may from centers of European industry like Germany's Ruhr River Valley. However, more regional and local depictions are less common. This exhibition provides an opportunity to highlight Milwaukee's industry and changing views of the city in post-industrial situations. The works selected for this exhibition-many executed in Michael Newhall's trademark Regionalist/Ashcan style-capture engaging scenes of Milwaukee's urban landscape and provide the viewer an opportunity to reflect on the city's recent past. Newhall has taught art and Buddhism at Naropa University, the Art Institute of Chicago, Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, and other universities in the Midwest. His works can be found in a number of public and private collections.

When Caroline, a veteran social worker, removes infant Luna Gale from the custody of her struggling young parents, the best course of action seems clear and Baby Luna is placed temporarily with her devoted grandmother. However Caroline quickly realizes that the situation is more complicated as she uncovers a shadowy and secretive family past. Struggling with the limitations of an overburdened bureaucracy, Caroline is forced to make a risky decision with potentially dangerous consequences. LUNA GALE explores the tough situations welfare workers must contend with daily to ensure the well-being of children and their families.

Gabriel Alegria Afro-Peruvian Sextet create a “cross-cultural exchange” between world rhythms and contemporary jazz melodies. Led by Peruvian trumpeter and Associate Director of Jazz Studies at New York University Gabriel Alegria, the group have spent the last decade together performing hundreds of shows and master classes throughout the world and taking in cultural influences to weave into their sound.The group’s expansive musical journeys hypnotize jazz aficionados and casual listeners alike. The New York Times praised Gabriel Alegria Afro-Peruvian Sextet’s capacity to “ the affinities between modern jazz and the Afro-Latin continuum in Peru.”

British singer-songwriter Bobby Long emerged from London's club scene with a reputation for creating memorable songs inhabited by hauntingly poetic lyrics. He relocated to New York in 2009 and has since released three CDs inhabited by powerful original material: A Winter Tale (2011)--an homage to his acoustic roots; Wishbone (2013)--a gritty opus that showcases his sorrow-filled voice and stellar guitar playing; and the latest, Ode to Thinking, which applies his varied musical influences to a new collection of compelling songs. The vinyl version called Ode, comprising six tracks from the CD and three previously unreleased tracks, is also now available from Compass Records. Long has also published a volume of poetry--Losing My Brotherhood--with a second collection coming later this year.
