Whether emphasizing the structural, the conceptual, or both, the artists included transform paper—a familiar and seemingly mundane material—into vessels, sculpture, adornment, and artist’s books. Featured artists Kiff Slemmons, who makes ornate paper jewelry, and Julie VonDerVellen, who creates complex sculptural paper watches and clocks, are represented by multiple works. Artists from RAM’s collection—such as Dominic Di Mare, Walter Hamady, Caren Heft, Jim Lee, Ke-Sook Lee, Mary Merkel-Hess, JoAnna Poehlmann, Kay Sekimachi, Merle Temkin, and Michael Velliquette—expand the conversation.

The Marquette University Symphony Orchestra, lead by Music Director Robin Engl, will present their final concert for the 2015.16 season on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Marquette University Varsity Theatre (1326 W. Wisconsin Ave. | Milwaukee, WI 53233). This performance is free and open to the public. The first half of the program will feature Gershwin's joyful and spontaneous "Cuban Overture," as well as guest artist, Rick Aaron, on Georg Telemann's "Suite for Flute and Orchestra in A minor." Aaron, a Milwaukee residential musician, has performed with a wide range of ensembles from playing in pit orchestras for Broadway shows at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts to performing in jazz clubs in downtown Milwaukee, and even serving as a substitute flutist for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. He has studied flute with Eldridge Meyer, Sam Baron, John Burgess, and Israel Borouchoff. For the second half of the program, the symphony will conclude their year with Ludwig van Beethoven's famous Symphony No. 7, Op. 92. Additionally, the graduating seniors of the MUSO will be recognized for their years of hard work and dedication. The Bard in Spring

This choral concert, commemorating the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death, will feature musical settings of texts by Shakespeare and several other well-known English poets. Texts will include excerpts from “Much Ado about Nothing,” “Measure for Measure,” “As You Like It,” “Hamlet,” “Othello,” Twelfth Night,” “The Winter’s Tale,” and “Two Gentlemen of Verona.” The music will be as varied as Shakespeare’s works, ranging from lush, haunting settings by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Orlando Gibbons and John Rutter to lilting, joyful and even boisterous settings by Thomas Morley, Franz Schubert, Emma Lou Diemer, Brian McLinden and others.
