WisDems Honor Hispanic Heritage Month
MADISON, Wis. — In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Latino Caucus Chair Cristhabel Martinez released the following statement:
“Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to honor the generations of Latinos who have helped shape Wisconsin and to recognize the growing leadership, civic participation, and political power of our communities across the state. This year, Wisconsin achieved significant milestones in Latino political representation in our state’s politics, including Wisconsin’s first Latina state legislator, JoCasta Zamarripa, who is now running as the Democratic nominee for Secretary of State. She has the chance to make history again as the first Latina elected to a statewide office.
“As we look toward November, we have an opportunity to elect Democrats up and down the ballot and work toward a Democratic trifecta in Wisconsin—but political representation and electoral victories are only meaningful if we use them to govern and deliver on issues that are important to Latinos and Wisconsinites across the state, including expanding access to affordable housing, strengthening our public education, and pursuing immigration policies that recognize the dignity and contributions of our communities. This Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate how far we have come, and we continue building a Wisconsin where Latino communities are not only represented, but empowered to help shape our state’s future.”
