Gov. Evers Appoints Jake Laehn as Buffalo County Sheriff

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today appointed Jake Laehn as Buffalo County Sheriff. The appointment fills a vacancy created by Sheriff Michael Osmond’s resignation. Laehn will complete the remainder of the unexpired term that ends January 2027.
“Having spent his career in law enforcement in Buffalo County, Jake Laehn has both gained the experience and built the strong community relationships necessary to serve the people of Buffalo County well as their next sheriff,” said Gov. Evers.
Laehn has served as a deputy with the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office since 2011. Throughout his tenure with the Department, he has gained a breadth of experience in nearly every operational division, including communications, corrections, patrol, and criminal investigations. He is currently the chief deputy and undersheriff. In this role, he oversees daily operations, coordinates personnel and resources, assists in strategic planning, and supports policy implementation.
“With years of experience across corrections, communications, patrol, investigations, and his current role as chief deputy, I am fully confident that Jake Laehn is the ideal choice for sheriff,” said former Buffalo County Sheriff Michael Osmond. “He consistently demonstrates the leadership, integrity, and commitment required to serve the citizens of Buffalo County, and I endorse him 100 percent as the best person for the job.”
Laehn is a lifelong resident of Buffalo County and holds an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Western Technical College. He resides in Mondovi with his family.

Evers’ appointment as the next Buffalo County Sheriff,” said Laehn. “For the past 15 years, it has been a privilege to serve and protect the people of Buffalo County, and I look forward to continuing that responsibility as your sheriff. I am committed to strengthening the relationships we have built with our residents, our community partners, and our fellow law enforcement agencies as we continue working together to keep Buffalo County a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.”
