Brady Street BID Extends Summer Safety Pilot Program Through Labor Day Weekend
MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Following a review of community feedback and ongoing collaboration with public safety and neighborhood partners, the Brady Street Business Improvement District (BID) Board of Directors voted to extend the Brady Street Summer Safety Pilot Program through Labor Day weekend.
The six-week pilot, launched earlier this summer, was developed in partnership with the Milwaukee Police Department, Alderman Alex Brower‘s office, local businesses, residents, and community stakeholders to address quality-of-life concerns while preserving the vibrant character of Brady Street.
“We’re happy to see initial positive results from the safety pilot,” said Brady Street Area Association President, Douglas Savage. “Our neighborhood will be well-served by an extension followed by a stakeholder evaluation to inform next steps.”
From the beginning, the initiative was intended to be a pilot program that would evolve based on community feedback, operational observations, and public safety data.
“The purpose of this pilot has always been to listen, learn, and make adjustments as we go,” said Anna Antoine, Executive Director of the Brady Street BID. “We know there isn’t a single solution to the challenges facing Brady Street, but we’re encouraged by the collaboration we’ve seen between businesses, residents, the City, and our public safety partners. Extending the pilot gives us additional time to evaluate what’s working, refine what isn’t, and continue building a safer Brady Street together.”
After the Board’s vote, the BID sought feedback from the Brady Street Area Association (BSAA), Alderman Brower’s office, and the Milwaukee Police Department. All expressed support for continuing the pilot while its effectiveness continues to be evaluated.
The pilot includes several coordinated strategies, including:
- Increased Milwaukee Police Department visibility and enforcement of existing ordinances.
- Overnight no parking restrictions on Brady Street from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., Thursday through Saturday.
- The Brady Street Code of Conduct public awareness campaign.
- Ongoing collaboration among businesses, residents, law enforcement, and City partners.
- Continued evaluation of traffic management and pedestrian safety initiatives.
Throughout the pilot, the BID has gathered feedback through community meetings, business outreach, resident conversations, and public surveys. The Board will continue reviewing community input and public safety data as the program progresses, making adjustments when appropriate.
