MILWAUKEE, Wis. – This August, audiences are invited to experience the extraordinary artistry, musicality, and storytelling of tap dance as Danceworks On Tap presents Sole Expressions, a dynamic concert celebrating the powerful connection between movement and sound.

Performances will take place Friday, August 7 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, August 8 at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, August 9 at 2:30 p.m. at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center (325 W. Walnut St., Milwaukee).

Founded in 2000 by Amy Brinkman-Sustache and Patrick Kendall, Danceworks On Tap has spent more than 25 years preserving and advancing tap dance as a vibrant contemporary art form through professional performances, education, and community engagement. Today, the company remains one of only a handful of professional tap dance companies in the United States dedicated to sustaining this uniquely American art form.

Sole Expressions features original choreography rooted in tap traditions while embracing bold new artistic voices. This performance features original works rooted in tradition and driven by innovation by founding member Amy Brinkman-Sustache alongside Danceworks On Tap company members Gabi Sustache-Turner, Tina Wozniak, Holly Swenson, and Nikki Junkel. Professional tap artist and Danceworks faculty member Richard Ashworth will also premiere new choreography performed by the Danceworks Tap Performance Workshops. Adding to this year’s performance is the premiere of new choreography by acclaimed tap artist and Danceworks faculty member Richard Ashworth, performed by participants in the Danceworks Tap Performance Workshops.

These workshops provide dedicated youth and adult tap dancers with the rare opportunity to rehearse and perform alongside professional artists, offering an immersive performance experience that bridges education and professional artistry. For many participants, the workshops represent the culmination of months of intensive training and collaboration, while giving audiences the chance to witness the depth and vibrancy of Milwaukee’s tap community.

More than entertainment, Sole Expressions highlights tap dance as a living, evolving art form—one that blends music, movement, history, and personal expression into an experience unlike any other. Whether you’re a longtime tap enthusiast or discovering the art form for the first time, Sole Expressions promises an evening of infectious energy, exceptional musicianship, and unforgettable performances that celebrate the rhythms connecting us all.
