Gov. Evers Appoints Mike Amman to the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today announced he is appointing Mike Amman to serve on the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board. The governor has appointed Amman to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Patty Schachtner. Amman will serve for the remainder of the unexpired term that ends May 2027.
“Preserving our natural resources is a part of our DNA as Wisconsinites—whether it’s ensuring safe, clean drinking water, or protecting our vast forests and expansive shorelines—and the Natural Resources Board plays a critical role in this work,” said Gov. Evers. “An experienced hunter with over two decades of experience in forestry and conservation, I have no doubt Mike’s dedication and passion for stewardship will serve the Natural Resources Board well, and that he will continue our work to preserve and protect all that makes Wisconsin the great place it is to live, visit, and explore.”
Amman is a lifelong Wisconsin resident who lives in Ashland and has over two decades of experience working for the Bayfield County Forestry and Parks Department as a county forester managing Wisconsin’s public forest lands. His work focuses on sustainable forestry, wildlife habitat conservation, and recreation management. Mike earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in forestry and has worked extensively with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, local governments, and conservation partners to promote science-based natural resource management.
“I am honored to be joining the Natural Resources Board where I will be a strong advocate for science-based natural resource management,” said Amman. “As a lifelong Wisconsin resident, hunter, angler, and practicing forester, I am committed to ensuring our shared natural resources are well managed for the citizens of today and future generations.”
Amman serves as vice president of the Wisconsin Sharp-tailed Grouse Society, Wisconsin county forestry representative on the Wisconsin Sharp-tailed Grouse Advisory Committee, and forestry stakeholder representative on the Bayfield County Deer Advisory Committee. He has also previously served on the city of Ashland Plan Commission and Parks and Recreation Committee. Amman was the recipient of the Wisconsin Chapter of The Wildlife Society’s Special Service Award for his contributions to wildlife conservation and habitat management.
