Lorenzo Santos Warns the Trump Administration Fits the Definition of a Domestic Terrorism Organization and Will Attempt to Interfere with the 2026 Midterm Election
As a Homeland Security practitioner, a veteran of our military, and an emergency manager trained to handle crises ranging from terrorist attacks, pandemics to natural disasters, it is my job to assess risks and plan for them. In doing so, I have come to the grave conclusion that the Trump Administration fits the description of a domestic terrorist organization in accordance with the definitions provided by 18 U.S.C 2331 (5) and 6 U.S.C. 101 (18) and they will attempt to interfere with the upcoming midterm election.
Elements of the definition for domestic terrorism are paraphrased below:
- Involve acts dangerous to human life, critical infrastructure or key resources that violate federal, state or local criminal laws.
- Appear to be intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population, influence government policy by intimidation or coercion, or affect government conduct by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping.
- Occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States.
The current administration is actively trying to suppress our ability to vote and exercise the peaceful transfer of power in the next election by pushing voter suppression legislation known as the SAVE Act. This administration is also sending the FBI across the country, including Wisconsin, to intimidate local officials. They know their policies are deeply unpopular, their performance in office is shockingly inept, and the dissatisfaction of the electorate with them is at an all-time high. They will aim to use ICE and potentially our military as their own personal gestapo. ICE is killing U.S. citizens and unarmed civilians in broad daylight on our streets, without due process and no repercussions. If the military is asked to support these efforts, they must decline to obey these illegal orders.
Donald Trump has never been able to admit he lost the 2020 election. Even worse, to work for his administration or be an ally, you must pass the litmus test of indulging him in this grandiose delusion.
Because he could not handle losing, Donald Trump first asked the Georgia Secretary of State to “find votes.” This intimidation of a state official to overturn election results was illegal. When that didn’t work, Donald Trump incited a riot against the United States Capitol on January 6th, 2021, to try and prevent the certification of a free and fair election. In doing so, he put members of the House and Senate in danger, along with the Capitol Police officers sworn to protect them. Among those put in danger on January 6th, 2021, was one of my long-time role models, fellow veteran and cousin, Eugene Goodman. Eugene showed incredible bravery on that day and in many ways changed the course of history through his swift and decisive actions. I am immeasurably proud of him and it is an honor to walk in his footsteps of service. I am thankful for the actions he and his colleagues took to defend the Capitol.
Because he was unable to face defeat with grace, Donald Trump put our federal legislature, his own Vice President, Capitol law enforcement, and a member of my family in mortal danger, just to soothe his bruised ego. Because he fears he will soon face defeat again in November, he is gearing up to interfere with the electoral process once more. We cannot allow that to happen.
Article 1, Section 4 of the Constitution declares individual states have dominion over elections. Congress has secondary power to regulate them only in extreme cases. The Constitution provides no such power to the executive branch. States must resist every effort of the Trump Administration to coerce them into giving up that sacred responsibility. This is why I support the Protect Our Polls Act, co-sponsored by Wisconsin’s very own Senator Tammy Baldwin.
This is a president that lied about releasing the full Epstein Files, improving the economy, and not getting us into another foreign war. And he recently used a prime-time address to lie to the American people about election security. If he were truly concerned about election security, he would not have gutted the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency that provides physical and cybersecurity support or dismantled the U.S. Election Assistance Commission that would provide guidance to state and local election administrators. The president is a sore loser even when he wins.
Please pay attention and do not allow this administration to intimidate you out of making your voice heard in the next election. Voting is one of the most American things we all can do. We can’t let anyone ever take that away from us.
