MADISON – Today, Senator Sarah Keyeski (D-Lodi) received official notice of her appointment as a member of the Joint Legislative Council Study Committee on the Use of Artificial Intelligence.

The focus of the study committee’s work will be on the use of AI technology in health care. Particularly, members will study the use of AI in interactions between patients and providers, patients and insurers or Medicaid programs, and providers and insurers or Medicaid programs.

The committee is made up of 16 members, 12 of which are members of the public who are primarily professionals with experience in health care and/or artificial intelligence and four of which are state legislators, including Senator Keyeski. Senator Rachael Cabral-Guevara (R-Appleton) will serve as Chair, Representative Adam Neylon (R-Pewaukee) will serve as Vice Chair, and Representative Mike Bare (D-Verona) will serve as a committee member.

Senator Keyeski released the following statement in response:

“The use of artificial intelligence is on the rise and is increasingly impacting new parts of our lives. Safety, accuracy, efficiency, and reliability are of utmost importance in health care. I am honored to serve on a committee that will allow me to dig deeply into how artificial intelligence is impacting patients, health care providers, insurance providers, and Medicaid programs in our state. This is an excellent opportunity to discuss a timely issue and potentially develop legislation to set standards for the use of AI in healthcare. I look forward to our meetings.”
