Milwaukee Police Department Officer Criminally Charged
MILWAUKEE, WI— On March 13, 2026, the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) became aware of serious allegations of criminal misconduct involving Detective Tehranghi Chapman. The information was immediately forwarded to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office for review and investigation. The subsequent investigation substantiated the claims, and on July 8, 2026, the District Attorney’s Office issued a criminal complaint, which is attached to this release.
Detective Chapman, who has more than 22 years of service with MPD, has been on full suspension since March 13, 2026.
Chief Norman emphasized the department’s steadfast commitment to integrity and accountability, stating:
“No one is above the law. We expect all members of this department—both sworn officers and professional staff—to uphold the highest ethical standards. We will continue to take decisive action to preserve public trust and honor the values of this organization,” said Chief Norman.
MPD underscores that every individual is entitled to due process and is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The department remains focused on transparency, community engagement, and building strong partnerships that support safety and trust throughout the City of Milwaukee.
