MILWAUKEE, WI – On Friday, June 12, 2026, at approximately 10:58 a.m., uniformed Milwaukee Police Department officers responded to a call for a subject with a gun who was threatening to shoot the caller in the 8500 block of West Kaul Avenue. Investigators later learned the suspect attempted to rob the caller. MPD officers observed the suspect armed with a revolver walking away from the scene and they attempted to stop him. The suspect told officers to shoot him as he held a revolver to his own head and threatened to shoot officers. The suspect then fled on foot and ran into a nearby apartment building, where he retreated to a 2nd floor landing in a common hallway. Officers heard a firearm discharged. As officers repeatedly ordered the suspect to drop the revolver, an officer then discharged their firearm at the suspect. No one was struck at this time. Officers negotiated with the suspect for approximately 1 hour.

As the officers engaged in conversation with the suspect, he agreed to accept a bottle of water and a cigar from the officers. The suspect then walked down the stairs to retrieve these items. At this time, less lethal options were then used to attempt to take the suspect into custody. The suspect then retreated up the stairs to the landing in the common hallway. Officers then discharged their duty firearms at the suspect, striking him. The suspect was taken into custody, and medical aid was rendered at the scene. The suspect’s revolver was recovered near him. No officers were injured by gunfire.

While investigating this incident, another victim reported to the Milwaukee Police Department that the suspect attempted to rob them of their vehicle while armed with a revolver. This occurred in the 8400 block of W. Kaul shortly before the original call.

The suspect, a 22-year-old male, was conveyed to a local hospital and pronounced deceased at approximately 12:50pm.
