Missy Hughes Commits to Opting Into Federal Tax Credit Program to Keep Hundreds of Millions of Dollars in Wisconsin to Support Our Schools
Following The Failure Of The Budget Surplus Deal That Would Have Provided Hundreds Of Millions Of Dollars To Wisconsin Schools, Missy Hughes Has Pledged As Governor To Opt Into The Federal Scholarship Tax Credit That Will Deliver Critical Resources Wisconsin’s Students
VIROQUA, WI – Gubernatorial candidate Missy Hughes today announced her commitment to allow Wisconsinites to utilize the newly enacted Federal Scholarship Tax Credit to freely contribute $1,700 a year to Scholarship Granting Organizations in Wisconsin.
“We need to unlock every resource possible for our children and teachers. When politicians failed to get a deal done for Wisconsin schools, that 80% of Wisconsinites supported, students were the ones left behind,” said Missy, “Our responsibility is to pursue every available opportunity that can help Wisconsin children succeed.”
“As Governor I will opt Wisconsin into the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit so that Wisconsin families, students, and communities benefit from resources that would otherwise flow to other states. I support Wisconsin participating in this program because I believe our students deserve every opportunity available to them,” Missy continued.
Opting Wisconsin into the Federal Scholarship Tax Program would give Wisconsinites a $1,700 tax credit to contribute to Wisconsin schools. Estimates show that if just 10% of Wisconsin’s three million federal tax paying residents fully utilized the program, over $500 million a year would be directed from the federal government to support education in Wisconsin. In addition to opting into this federal program, as Governor, Missy would create a state supported, statewide Scholarship Granting Organization to fast track the delivery of these dollars into Wisconsin’s public schools.
Missy’s announcement today follows the collapse of a widely supported proposal that would have provided additional funding for Wisconsin schools while delivering tax relief for Wisconsin families.
“After the failure to deliver additional school funding this year, Wisconsinites deserve to know where their leaders stand. I stand with students, parents, and teachers who want every available resource working on behalf of Wisconsin children.” Missy concluded.
