West Allis, Wis. — In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Southwest Suburban Health Department and Rogers Behavioral Health are partnering with local coffee shops and businesses to spread an important message of hope and support throughout the community.

This May for Mental Health Month, residents in West Allis, Greenfield, and the Village of West Milwaukee may notice a meaningful message wrapped around their morning coffee: “Your story is still brewing. Stay.” Alongside this message, each sleeve includes information for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, a free and confidential resource available 24/7 for anyone experiencing emotional distress, mental health challenges, or substance use concerns.

A total of 11,000 coffee sleeves have been distributed to 9 local businesses and coffee shops across the three communities, helping bring awareness directly into everyday spaces where people gather.

“Our goal is simple: remind people that they are not alone and that help is always available,” said Nick Maniaci, Public Health Strategist. “By partnering with local coffee shops, we’re able to meet people where they are and share a message that could make a real difference.”

Participating locations include The Bread Pedalers, Lake Effect Coffee Company, Aroma Café, Piece of Love & Elevate Coffee, K & K Barista, The Bake Sale, Aggie’s Bakery and Cake Shop, Dryhootch, and Scooter’s Coffee (West Milwaukee location).

The initiative highlights the power of community collaboration in supporting mental health. By engaging local businesses, the Health Department is expanding the reach of critical resources and normalizing conversations around mental health and seeking help. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline connects individuals to trained counselors who provide compassionate, judgment-free support. Anyone can call or text 988, or chat via 988lifeline.org, to receive help.
