Brewers Host Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters Hiring Event at American Family Field, April 18
More Than 25 Contractors Will be Onsite Ready to Hire in This Fast-Paced, Interactive Competition
MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers today announced they are teaming up with the Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters (NMRCC) to host a hiring event on Saturday, April 18. The event will take place in the Third Base Plaza and Brewers 2 parking lot at American Family Field with more than 25 contractors onsite ready to hire 300 carpenters, floor coverers and millwrights on the spot.
“We are proud to join forces with the NMRCC in hosting this unique event at American Family Field,” said Brewers President – Business Operations Rick Schlesinger. “This hiring combine will open the door to hundreds of individuals who are aspiring to build a career in the trades and perhaps one day apply their skills to work on projects at American Family Field.”
Along with the hiring event, “Schools to Tools,” a 40-foot semi will be onsite for families to explore the trades and learn skills through interactive activities and virtual reality. This educational opportunity is great for young people to learn about the skills necessary for a future in the trades.
The NMRCC has had many successes in hosting hiring combines in the past, with a majority of contractors hiring on the same day. The NMRCC travels around the Northern Midwest to host these innovative hiring events, but this is their first partnership with a Major League Baseball team, and first time in Milwaukee. The NMRCC represents more than 36,000 skilled union members and their families in the Midwest, creating a brotherhood of people who take pride in their craft.
“Our Making the Cut Hiring Event is like baseball tryouts, but for carpenters,” said Tom Lutz, Executive Secretary-Treasurer for the Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters. “By completing our skills course, career seekers can demonstrate their aptitude and attitude to contractors seeking to fill nearly 300 positions. Just starting your construction career? No problem. Our contractors are looking for hustle, and our tuition-free, earn while you learn apprenticeship is the place to develop the skills you need to build a long, lucrative career in the construction industry.”
The Milwaukee Brewers hosting the NMRCC is just a glimpse into the longtime support shown to the trades industry. The longstanding relationship with Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) and other community-based organizations adhere to the support and admiration the Milwaukee Brewers have for trades workers in Milwaukee and Greater Wisconsin.
