Work to Resume on Mitchell Interchange Resurfacing Project in Milwaukee County
Beginning Monday, March 23, 2026, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will resume resurfacing and improvement work in the Mitchell Interchange, Milwaukee County. This project is between Rawson Avenue to the south, Howard Avenue to the north, and 35th Street to the west.
Work to be completed:
- Resurface pavement
- Retaining and barrier wall repairs
- Remaining base patching and bridge approach repairs
- High-friction surface treatments
- Improvements to College Avenue Park and Ride
- Drainage improvements and new pavement markings
Traffic impacts:
The majority of this work will be completed during the overnight and off-peak travel hours.
Motorists can expect long-term lane closures, long-term system and service ramp closures, overnight full freeway closures, and occasional local road closures.

Schedule:
Construction on this project began in fall 2025 and is scheduled for completion in fall 2026. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
