Community Celebration of Life for Akuwa C. Dantzler Set for Saturday
Statement of Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs March 6, 2026
As many of you know, my dearest friend, confidant, and devoted aldermanic Legislative Assistant – Akuwa C. Dantzler – passed on February 16 after battling serious illness for a prolonged period.
Akuwa was well known in many circles, and especially in the community and at City Hall. She would attend virtual meetings, plan events, and worked tirelessly for the residents of the 6th District and the citizens of Milwaukee. In her carrying out her work, Akuwa was known for treating others with kindness and being intentionally thoughtful and collaborative in her service.
To celebrate Akuwa’s life in a way that reflects her heart, her dedication, and her unwavering commitment to public service, the community is invited to the Celebration of Life for Akuwa Dantzler, TOMORROW – Saturday, March 7, at Wisconsin Black Historical Society and Museum, 2620 W. Center St.
The doors will open at 1 p.m., and I look forward to seeing the community join in an uplifting celebration of Akuwa’s life and service to Milwaukee.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation via www.city.milwaukee.gov/GiveMKE to support the Akuwa Dantzler Girls’ Day @ City Hall Scholarship. The annual scholarship aims to continue her legacy of uplifting and empowering young women in our community.
