Sen. Keyeski Responds to Priorities Outlined in Governor Evers’ Last State of the State Address
MADISON – Tonight, Governor Tony Evers delivered his eighth and final State of the State Address. During his speech, the Governor reflected on his priorities and Wisconsin’s bipartisan accomplishments over the course of his time as governor, called upon the legislature to not end the legislative session early, and declared 2026 to be the “Year of the Neighbor.”
[inarticled]State Senator Sarah Keyeski (D-Lodi) released the following statement after the address:
“At a time when the politics in our country is particularly divisive and inflammatory, I appreciated that Governor Evers used his last State of the State address as an opportunity to remind us of the good work we have done and can continue to do when we work together.
“I applauded the Governor’s reminder that there is much work still to be done to lower costs and improve the lives of Wisconsinites before we wrap up this legislative session. As Speaker Vos has expressed that Thursday will be the Assembly’s last session day and Majority Leader LeMahieu has shared that the Senate will likely wind down in March – this message was particularly important. Wisconsin is a full-time state legislature. Our calendar and work should reflect that.
“The Governor declaring 2026 as ‘The Year of the Neighbor’ is especially poignant as our federal government regularly tells the American people to fear their neighbor. I wholeheartedly support Governor Evers encouraging Wisconsinites to stay true to Wisconsin values of kindness, respect, empathy and compassion. Those are the values that will help our state be successful and push us forward, like our motto.”
