GOP Candidate for Governor Tom Tiffany Appears to Blame Alex Pretti for His Death, Contradicts Second Amendment

MADISON, Wis. — Tom Tiffany’s first press conference of 2026 was a disaster—Tiffany admitted he had not seen the video of ICE agents killing Alex Pretti, who he all but said brought it upon himself by lawfully having a firearm on him at the time of his death. In the process of trying to cover up his mess, Tiffany then issued a statement on ICE operations in Minneapolis, doubling down on his assertion that Alex Pretti is to blame for his own death, saying “cooperation is how you avoid tragic consequences.”

“Tiffany is willing to double back on his own well-documented position on gun rights and the constitution to back Trump and the GOP’s assault on our constitutional freedom,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Emily Stuckey. “Tom Tiffany has demonstrated an inexcusable lack of leadership from a candidate for governor, staying willfully ignorant during a crisis moment and spinelessly placing the blame on Minnesota officials—despite still not having seen the evidence.”

In the process of showing how unfit he is to be governor, Tiffany contradicted the Second Amendment, implying that citizens cannot legally carry a gun without facing consequences from federal officers. Tiffany has co-sponsored bills to legalize nationwide open carry and statewide concealed carry.
