Tom Tiffany Rolls Out Blueprint to Lower Property Taxes for All Wisconsinites
MADISON, WI – Today, Congressman Tom Tiffany, candidate for Governor of Wisconsin, joined Dane County homeowners to unveil his plan to end Governor Evers’ 400-year property tax hike and deliver lasting tax relief to every Wisconsinite.
“As our nation marks its 250th birthday this year, Governor Evers has locked Wisconsin into a property tax hike that will last nearly twice as long as America has existed,” said Congressman Tiffany. “No Wisconsinite should be forced to pay a 400-year tax they never voted on.”
“My plan repeals the 400-year property tax hike, lowers taxes for every homeowner, and gives Wisconsinites the certainty they deserve by ensuring property taxes cannot be raised when I am governor. It’s time to make Wisconsin a place where seniors can afford to stay in their homes, young couples can start a family, and the next generation can build their future right here at home,” Tiffany concluded.
Tiffany’s Blueprint for Lower Property Taxes:
Wisconsin is now one of the top ten highest property tax states in the country, right alongside Illinois, New Jersey, and New York. That didn’t happen by accident. In 2023, Governor Evers took a temporary school-funding provision, scratched out a few digits and a hyphen, and turned it into a property tax hike that lasts until the year 2425. When the liberal Wisconsin Supreme Court upheld his 400-year property tax increase, he called it “great news.”
- On day one, Tiffany will call a special session to repeal the Democrats’ 400-year property tax hike that is crushing Wisconsin homeowners.
- After repealing it and lowering taxes, Tiffany will implement a statewide property tax freeze so young families and seniors can have certainty about staying in their homes.
At the press conference, Congressman Tiffany was joined by Deb Wipperfurth (Dane County homeowner whose property taxes went up $2,400 last year), Navin Jarugumilli (Dane County homeowner), and Luke Stanzler (college student and hopeful homeowner).
