With Rocky Trails, a bloody hipster horror/comedy set in the mid-80s (complete with that quintessential 80s aesthetic — think sweet mullets and french cuffs), local filmmaker Drew Rosas is seeing one of his dreams realized.

Tomorrow night, Rosas’ first feature film will premiere at the Oriental Theatre, on the same screen that so often enraptured him as a budding film student at UW-Milwaukee.

Rosas wrote, directed, shot and edited the film over the course of three months and on a shoestring budget. Though few pals and veterans of the film scene in Milwaukee lent their talents, the majority of cast and crew was comprised of friends and acquaintances that were willing to volunteer their time.

In this special bonus podcast, Mark Metcalf chats with Drew about the cult following for 80s-era horror, experimental film and what Drew calls “the A-Team of film-making.”

Rocky Trails opens at the Oriental Theatre for a one-night-only screening on Thursday, May 20 at 7 p.m.
