WUWM 89.7 – Milwaukee’s NPR adds “Wisconsin Today” to program schedule

MILWAUKEE – WUWM 89.7 – Milwaukee’s NPR will begin broadcasting “Wisconsin Today,” an hour-long news magazine from Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR) on December 1.

The show will air at 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. It will air at 9 p.m. on Thursdays, following “The Middle,” which airs live.

WUWM and WPR are collaborating to bring “Wisconsin Today” to the Milwaukee market to increase Wisconsin-based local and regional programming and better serve listeners with relevant content that is of, by and for Wisconsinites.

WUWM’s general manager David Lee explains, “WUWM’s mission is to connect, engage, and inspire our listeners to a deeper understanding of each other, the region, and the world. This partnership helps us live that mission by bringing ‘Wisconsin Today’ to our audience, deepening our local coverage, and strengthening the connections that make public radio so vital to our community.”

“Wisconsin Today” is hosted by WPR’s Rob Ferrett and Kate Archer Kent. Each weekday, Rob, Kate and their team of online and on-air producers offer a mix of in-depth interviews, field reports and investigations that reflect the issues, people and culture of communities across Wisconsin. The show is committed to centering Wisconsin voices and perspectives in every segment.

With the addition of “Wisconsin Today” and other programming changes, WUWM will increase its total amount of weekly local programming from 5% to 12%.

“WPR is thrilled to partner with WUWM to bring ‘Wisconsin Today’ to people in Milwaukee. This program partnership is a first for our two organizations and it’s a great example of public media working together in new ways to better serve the audience,” said Noah Ovshinsky, WPR’s chief content officer.
