Right-Wing SCOWIS Candidate Maria Lazar Gleefully Doubles Down on Dobbs Being Overturned, States Right to Implement 1849 Abortion Ban
MADISON, Wis. — In a new interview, right-wing Wisconsin Supreme Court Candidate Maria Lazar gleefully noted that the United States Supreme Court was right on the Dobbs decision and to give states the right to implement their own abortion laws — like Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion ban.
In a recent interview Lazar also disagreed with the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s decision striking down the state’s 1849 abortion ban, saying “I don’t know if I would have been in the majority on that case.” Following the Dobbs decision, the state’s 1849 law prohibited nearly all abortion in Wisconsin for over a year, preventing Wisconsinites from accessing the care they need.
Recently, Lazar also called the SCOTUS decision on Dobbs “very wise.” In 2022, she received an endorsement from the no-exceptions anti-abortion group Pro-Life Wisconsin, did not disavow $250,000 in supportive spending by out-of-state dark money group “Fair Courts America”, and has given talks to the Federalist Society.
