WSOC Defeats Pirates 3-1 on Senior Night
The Marquette University women’s soccer team (7-7-4, 3-4-3 BIG EAST) wrapped up its 2025 regular season with a 3-1 win over Seton Hall (3-10-5, 0-9-1 BIG EAST) Saturday evening at Valley Fields.
“Anytime you’re ending a season and playing a game without playoff implications, there’s always some uncertainty about how the group will respond. I thought our team came together really well to honor our seven seniors,” head coach Chris Allen said.
Senior forward Jocelyn Leigh opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, finishing a cross from Coco Dorfman with an assist also credited to Josie Bieda, giving Marquette a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles extended their lead when Megan Murray found the back of the net in the 71st minute to make it 2-0. Seton Hall responded in the 80th minute with a goal to cut the lead in half, but Marquette quickly answered. Senior Aislinn Boyle sealed the match in the 87th minute off a setup from Murray to secure the 3-1 victory.
Marquette controlled possession throughout the match, outshooting the Pirates 17-5, including 8-1 in shots on goal. The Golden Eagles also earned eight corner kicks compared to Seton Hall’s one.
