MPD Statement on Recent TMJ4 News Story

By - Oct 8th, 2025 12:59 pm

MILWAUKEE, WI – The Milwaukee Police Department is aware of a recent story published by TMJ4 concerning the tragic incident involving two pedestrians on Water Street in July2025. Unfortunately, the report contains several inaccuracies and misleading conclusions regarding the investigation, particularly in relation to Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) procedures. At no point prior to publication did the reporter Jenna Rae, contact MPD to verify the facts or request comment. This lack of engagement resulted in a misrepresentation of the investigative process and has contributed to the continued trauma experienced by those affected by this tragic event.

To clarify, MPD dispatched an OWI investigator to the scene. That officer conducted a thorough assessment of the driver and determined that no further testing was warranted based on the evidence and observations at the time. The portrayal of MPD’s response in the TMJ4 report is not only inaccurate but unjustly undermines the integrity of our officers and the investigative process. We remain committed to transparency, professionalism, and the well-being of our community, and we encourage responsible journalism that seeks the truth and respects the dignity of those impacted.

We urge media outlets to engage with MPD directly when reporting on sensitive incidents to ensure accuracy and avoid unnecessary harm to victims, families, and the greater community.
