DNC Slams Wisconsin Republicans for Shutting the Government Down Instead of Protecting Wisconsinites Health Care

By - Oct 1st, 2025 08:04 am

Last night, despite Republican control of the White House and both chambers of Congress, federal government funding lapsed after Donald Trump and Wisconsin Republicans refused to come together on a bipartisan solution to keep the government open and save Wisconsinites’ health care.

Unlike Republicans who have refused to show up to work, Democrats have been in Washington, D.C., ready to work to avert a shutdown and stop health care costs from doubling for 271,589 Wisconsinites.

Voters across Wisconsin know this is a Trump Shutdown.

In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement: “In the clearest sign yet that Wisconsin Republicans are weak, incompetent, and lack any respect for the American people, they just shut down the federal government. Health insurance costs are about to double for Wisconsin families because of Republicans, but instead of preventing yet another Trump price hike, they are leaving the people high and dry. This shutdown is on Donald Trump and Republicans.

“Hospitals and nursing homes in Wisconsin are on the brink of shutting down and costs are skyrocketing. As Democrats, we have been clear in our position from the start — we want to reverse the cuts, lower the costs, and save health care for Wisconsinites.”
