MADISON, Wis. — As a government shutdown looms, northern Wisconsin Congressman and Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany is willing to let it happen and make Wisconsinites pay the cost.

“Let’s be clear: this government shutdown is 100% avoidable, but Trump and his Republican allies in Wisconsin are making the choice to let it happen,” said Lucy Ripp, communications director at A Better Wisconsin Together. “Wisconsinites would not be facing a government shutdown if Trump and Wisconsin Republicans like Tiffany would agree not to gut healthcare for millions of people, including thousands in Wisconsin.

In a recent radio interview, Tiffany was asked if he’s disappointed in Trump for refusing to work across the aisle and find a bipartisan solution – a solution that would keep the government open and ensure hundreds of thousands of Wisconsinites can keep their healthcare.

Tiffany’s answer? A resounding “No.”

Notably, this isn’t Tiffany’s first time gambling constituents’ healthcare away to serve his own partisan political agenda.

In July, Tiffany was one of the deciding votes to pass Trump’s budget bill that will cause thousands in Wisconsin to lose their healthcare, recently forced Planned Parenthood Wisconsin to pause abortion services, and could cause more permanent hospital closures in the future – all to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.
