Garden District Mural Unveiling To Take Place October 2
Alderman Scott Spiker is inviting the community to attend the unveiling of a new mural within the Garden District on Thursday, October 2 at 4 p.m. at 3900 S. 13th St. (the southwest corner of 13th and Howard).
Joining Alderman Spiker to celebrate this new piece of public art will be Mayor Cavalier Johnson, Leif Otteson, Executive Director of The Gateway to Milwaukee Business Improvement District, and muralist Cory Nikolaus. Media coverage is invited.
“While the Garden District is known for its captivating landscaping and green spaces, we’re also home to a variety of vibrant art pieces and talented local artists, including Cory Nikolaus and her recently completed mural,” said Alderman Spiker. “Public art adds so much character to neighborhoods, and increases the overall quality of life by taking an otherwise basic building facade and transforming it into something that can be enjoyed and shared by everyone. I look forward to celebrating Cory and her masterpiece later this week.”
Muralist Cory Nikolaus has spent the past 16 years in the death care profession as a funeral director and cemetery manager, and her unique perspective on life, death, and cherishing the memories of those who pass on is the inspiration for her mural.
The mural was supported via the Gateway to Milwaukee’s Property Beautification Grant Reimbursement Program in partnership with local business Brown Wilbert Vault Co.
