As Labor Day Approaches, Versiti Emphasizes the Lifeline of Blood Donations

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — August 29, 2025 — As the Labor Day weekend approaches, Versiti is calling on community members across Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin to schedule a blood donation and help ensure a stable, ready supply for patient care. Holiday periods can challenge collections, while needs for trauma, cancer treatment, and emergency medicine continue without pause.

“Weekends don’t pause cancer treatment or trauma care. They don’t pause us, either,” said Gretchen Jameson, Ed.D., executive vice president and chief marketing and communications officer for Versiti Blood Centers.” From collection to the lab to the hospital, we’re here around the clock so care teams have what they need. Your donation now keeps that promise.”

How to Donate and Celebrate Your Impact

· Find a donor center or community blood drive near you by visiting bloodcenter.com.

· From August 28 – September 7, all presenting donors will receive a $25 e-gift card (enter code “HERO” in the online notes. Must have a valid email for delivery).

Why Donate Now?

· Preparedness saves lives. Blood must be on hospital shelves before it’s needed.

· Steady supply matters. Long weekends can strain inventories; giving now helps keep care uninterrupted.

· Local impact. Your donation supports patients cared for by hospitals across Versiti’s five-state footprint.

Make an appointment at bloodcenter.com. Walk-ins are welcome where capacity allows; appointments ensure the fastest experience. Please bring a photo ID, eat a healthy meal, and hydrate before donating.

A Note of Compassion

As communities across the Upper Midwest process recent violence—including this week’s tragedy in Minneapolis—our hearts are with all who are hurting. A reliable blood supply is built steadily, week after week, by neighbors who give before headlines demand it.
