Vliet St., Milwaukee.

Founded 30 years ago by former Milwaukee County Supervisor Elizabeth Coggs, this beloved event marks three decades of supporting local youth and families as they prepare for the school year ahead. Families with school-age children are invited to enjoy a day filled with fun, community spirit, and free resources.

Highlights include:

  • Distribution of 1,000 book bags filled with essential school supplies
  • A youth talent showcase featuring performances by local youth
  • Free food, interactive games, and family-friendly activities
  • A 3-on-3 basketball tournament and much more!
  • 400 laptop computers will be given away to qualifying students. Children must be present to receive supplies or laptops, and laptop registration will take place onsite during the event.

“Year after year, this event reminds us of the power of community and how we can come together to support the success of our youth,” said Guy Smith, Executive Director of Milwaukee County Parks.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate 30 years of partnership and giving back.” Dee McCollum, Director of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, emphasized the impact the event has had over the years. “This festival has become a tradition that families look forward to every summer,” McCollum said. “It’s about more than book bags—it’s about connection, support, and making sure every child knows they are seen, valued, and ready to thrive in the classroom.”

All activities are free and open to the public. Supplies are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, please contact the King Community Center at (414) 344-5600
